Places To Visit In Ooty

Hi Guys, Hope everyone is doing well, me too! In January, I visited Ooty, which is officially known as Udagamandalam, in the state of Tamil Nadu. So far, it was an amazing traveling experience I ever had in South India. Ooty has beautiful green mountains coated by white mist and pleasant lakes.

Ooty is quite famous for its different flavors of tea plantations. Apart from this, Ooty produces plenty of other varieties like spices (masala), jasmine, cardamom, marshmallows, and even chocolate. If you love chocolates, then different types of homemade chocolates are available in stores.

COONOOR

Coonoor is the most attractive point for tourists because of its gorgeous mountains. It is hardly 20 Km away from Ooty. If you are fond of trekking, hiking, and rock climbing then it is the right place for you. The Catherine Falls and Elk Falls are the most famous waterfalls out there. You can also visit one of the huge tea factories present there, where you can learn how the plantations operate in this region.

The best time to visit Coonoor is during the winter season from October to February. The annual range of temperature is between 12 – 25 °C, which is the perfect time for sight-seeing activities.

I would say, Coonoor is the “must-see” place near Ooty, and If possible don’t miss the sunset out there.

PLACES TO VISIT IN OOTY, ROSE GARDEN!

The Rose Garden is situated on the slopes of the Elk Hill in Vijayanagaram of Ooty town, which is maintained by the Government of Tamil Nadu. This is the biggest rose garden, I have ever been to. The garden has thousands of varieties of flowers to explore and more than 1900 varieties of roses with approximately 18,000 rose plants.

Indeed, It is one of the largest collections of roses in India. Now you can imagine how beautiful it will be that’s why it attracts tourists throughout the year. If you are a photography enthusiast, then this will be the perfect spot for you. Though you have to pay some extra bucks for photography and videography.

OOTY LAKE

Ooty Lake also is known as the Ooty Boathouse and managed by the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation. It is around 1.1 Km away from the Ooty taxi stand, boating is the prime attraction at the lake. This is the most beautiful lake among other lakes. Apart from that, there are many fun activities that you can do with your kids. The boathouse offers different types of boating facilities like; Paddle Boats, Rowboats, and Motorboats.

This is a perfect place for those who are interested in Vlogs. Last but not least is a mini-train for kids to hop on and take a quick tour of the lake. The lake is quite surrounded by Eucalyptus trees with a railway line running along one shore.

NILGIRI MOUNTAIN TRAIN

If you are visiting Ooty, then you must take a ride to the fabulous Nilgiri Mountain Train in South India for views. It starts from Mettupalayam to Udagamandalam (Ooty), via Coonoor, in the Nilgiri Hills of Tamil Nadu, and covers a total distance of 46 Km in just 5 hours. This was established in the early 19th century by the British as the summer headquarters of the Chennai government and still running by a steam engine in half section of the route.

It passes through many tunnels, curves, and over a number of bridges. It is surrounded by ravines, rocky terrain, forested hills, and tea gardens. The most magnificent scenery can be seen during traveling and some people prefer to only travel along this part. An overall scenic journey through the lush green forest is a paradise for nature lovers.

PINE FOREST – A MUST VISIT PLACE IN OOTY

This Pine Tree Forest is the best place to have a great time in Ooty. This is one of the famous tourist spots in Ooty, Pine Forest is situated between Ooty and Thalakunda. Maybe you know this fact, many Bollywood hit movies have been featured there such as Raaz, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Khuda Gawah, Sadma, Dil, and Deewana have been shot here. That’s why this place is a perfect shooting spot for Bollywood.
