UTTARAKHAND – THE LAND OF GODS
UTTARAKHAND – THE LAND OF GODS

This blog is something about an adventure camping experience we had in winter and the best places we covered in Uttarakhand. When complete north India has its coldest days. We traveled to Munsiyari, Chopta, and some other places too. All these are some of the beautiful hill stations of Uttarakhand. I traveled there with my freaky friends/brothers. OK, but let me give you an overview of our 5 Days of the itinerary, to help you plan your own trip.

We carried our Tent of a good brand(Quechua), Food items like Rice, Spices, Sugar, Maggi Noodles Packets, Coffee Powder/Tea Leaves, Utensils, Solar LED Lamp, Mini LPG Cylinder, Coal, Paper Carton (to cover stove from the wind), Water Can, Disposal Plates/Glass, Hand Wash, etc, and we picked up a bunch of dry woods from the forest for a bonfire. So these are the essentials, where we didn’t compromise at all.

TOP TIP: Please don’t follow this itinerary blindly and don’t plan in haste to repent later. There are many mesmerizing places for camping in Uttarakhand. Before you ready for a blind adventure camping trip, there are a lot of things to remember. Which you have to care about seriously, otherwise, the consequences are not good. Especially when you don’t get the hotel room easily in Peak Season.

DAY 1: PITHORAGARH, WHAT A TIRING DAY…

We began our journey from Delhi, which is around 570 km by Road. And we had decided to cover a few more places between that. We traveled early in the morning so that we can cover the city area and reach our first halt before it’s dark. Finally, we took our first halt at Pithoragarh after 13 hours of driving along with some small rest. It was around 6 o’clock and early sunset because of winter.

DAY 2: DHARCHULA – BEST PLACES FOR CAMPING IN UTTARAKHAND…

As I mentioned earlier that we had to cover most of the places, so we got up early in the morning and left that place by 8 o’clock for Dharchula, which was hardly 95 km away from there. Meanwhile, we had Uttarakhandi’s famous snacks in breakfast called Pakodi Raita with Bhang Ki Chutney and a strong tea from a local Dhaba (Restaurant).

And we headed for our journey and looking for our best camping location because today we have ample time for this. And finally, we were able to find our location, which was quite near to the river and far away from the population. It had amazing scenes around, where the locals (probably they well known for their generosity) and some army soldiers helped us. We set up our tent and start preparing for our lunch.

We bought chicken from some local shop and cooked Chicken Biryani (Mixed rice dish with chicken). Then we start exploring and trekking in the woods. Took many photos and enjoyed myself a lot around there.

Today we are heading to our next destination place, which is around 100 km. So, we packed up our baggage and left that place by 9 o’clock for Munsiyari. In the mid of the way, we had tea and a small breakfast from a local stall.

DAY 4: CHOPTA, JUST ONE MORE MILE…

Today is going to be a long day because we are heading to our last destination, which is going to be around 10 hours of driving to Chopta, so we had to leave early in the morning. And we are going to move from the Kumaon region to the Garhwal region, around 300 km journey. Meanwhile, we took rest only one place and bought some wooden logs. Since it was too cold out there and we were out of time, so we prepared everything accordingly and timely.

We were too tired, still managed to cook dinner because of our skittish Spartans, who never say never and always energized for anything. We enjoyed every moment of that night because this is going to be the last night of this trip. The next day we had planned for trekking to Tungnath Temple.

DAY 5: TUNGNATH TEMPLE – SHIVA WE ARE HERE!

Guys, it’s a trekking day, and we are ready for our trek to Tungnath of 5 km (3.1 mi).  This can be covered in approximately 4–5 hours (depending on the trekker’s physical ability). Because of glassy ice, we slipped many times but no harm and finally reached Tungnath Temple.

PRO TIP: You can travel hill stations in any season except Rainy or Monsoon because it’s not safe to drive and landslides happen in most of the places. Apart from this, setting up a camp is quite dangerous because of insects, although, it looks cool in a Greeny atmosphere but not safe at all.
